nope! although i have done this already, got a complete built up rear subby including wheels in the back of my clubman estate, the back door were open slightly and i had to cling onto a wheel to stop it falling out the back, but then again i was only taking it 200yards lol

im in need of the width as im looking into making my estate rear wheel drive using a robin reliant rear axle, and need to know the width of a mini subframe fom hub to hub so i can compare the reliant axle with the width of the mini shell, to see if it was viable

Rear track of a 12" mini is 1205mm, ET of a steel wheel is 35mm.
Answer to your question is about 1275mm?

hmmmm interesting! as the reliant rear axle is 50 and 3/4" from one side to the next.... so only 5" differnce! so it would be viable.... now to hunt for parts :P

there are motorbikes out there that use a drivehaft instead of a chain to turn the back wheel, you could mount said bike engine up front, run the prop shaft down the exhaust tunnel to the reliant rear axle making it rear wheel drive, the shell wouldnt be heavily modified so could always be returned to standard...

plus it aint been done before, its different than the usual r1/z cars type build, honda/vauxhall set up, and you would get v.good miles per gallon!

anyone know what motorbikes run shaft drive?

you can use a normal bike engine as there are companies that make sprockets that mount to the output shaft and enables you to run a shaft to the rear axles, hence why kitcars run bike engines to the rear wheels

BMW produce shaft drive bikes one of them being, funnily enough, the K-series which people use the cylinder head on the A-series block.
Others include the Honda CX500 & VT500, Yamaha XJ650, 750 & 900, and Kawasaki GT550 & GT750 so plenty to choose from.

Yes, i know some harleys and big hondas have/had reverse.
fitting a motorbike engine with no reverse makes hard work having to get out and push it backwards.

Some of the conversions come with a motor for reverse. (zcars etc) but its an optional extra.
