Hello,
My first post having only just got my first mini! Had it for about two months now and all has been great. Looks like I'm going to live on these forums in the coming months!
Recently I have started loosing power while driving. I'll be happily cruising along and then suddenly revs would drop and there's no response from the car when pressing the accelerator. After a few seconds lifting off the accelerator I slowly put my foot back on and the engine runs again. This problem is very intermittent and happens no matter how long I've ran the car for (water in the coil/wet ignition system perhaps?).
Now for the stupid bit.. I thought maybe it was a dirty fuel line or something along those lines. So I had the idea of putting some Redex cleaner through my little beast. I know it's for injection engines but I thought what could be the harm in putting some in my machine to maybe give it a bit of a clean. The car still runs fine, starts first time etc but now with drastically less power than before (very slow to accelerate etc). I've cleaned the spark plugs and ran a few tanks of petrol through the little minx but it's still chugging along slowly at best.
Could there be anything else I could do to remedy this? What a fool eh!
Thanks for your help
Mark

Could be that the redex has caused debris to be washed through to the carb and is now restricting the jet?
When was the car last serviced - there could be a a whole host of things causing the partial loss of power.
Also is the engine modified - does it have a different air filter - could the problem be carb icing - what inlet manifold are you running?
Put some more details up - might have some ideas.

Thanks Steve,
I had the car serviced about 3 weeks ago. Big overhaul really, at M&M's in Warrington. I visited a few times and Merv had the engine out in bits! Everything is original engine wise. I'm quite new to all this mechanical talk but I have a trusty Haynes and I'm a quick learner! (Hopefully).
I use the car daily to get me from Liverpool to Manchester and It's never failed to get there even with this recent loss of power..

Sounds like a fueling problem, I'd take the carb to bits to check over that no parts are getting stuck and causing the wrong fuel/air mix. Check the dashpot has oil in it too.

I'd also be tempted to check over the carb - I had a big issue with a bloomin' sticky valve in the float bowl - smallest part in the world!
I don't think the Redex itself would be your problem!
