Hi all,

I was going to weld the inner flitch panel in today but while I was drilling for the spot welds and positioning I noticed that the top of the old inner flitch, which is in good condition is loose. I have marked out a section which I was going to cut out and join to the top of the repair flitch panel.

As you can see there is a gap on the LHS and if I push here...

this section moves. Should it be joined under the scuttle area somewhere or is it firmed up when joined to the flitch panel I am going to weld in ??

Also is the bit I have cross hatched where the scuttle closing panel goes against??

Thanks,

Graham

Hello,

If I remember correctly the part you are moving is joined at the windscreen seam along with the scuttle and upper dash panel.

How much force are you putting on it to move it? Is it just flex in the metal or is something else moving.

My scuttle closing panel fits around the area you have cross hatched, just above the flitch repair panel.

If you remember my post when I did this area, having all that metal cut out did result in a lot of flex in the windscreen pillar and door hinge area.

When doing mine I took the plunge and started to tack the new panel in and with each weld you can see the reduction in flex as the strength increases, checking door shuts and screen fitment all the time.

Hope this helps.

Neil

Hi Neil,

Yes I think it is just metal flex as this is the inside and underneath

That pic and your thread has helped alot, and I need to weld it in I think and it should, as you said, firm up. The repair panel doesn't fit too badly but it is out at the top so will make a piece to fit and close it. If when I am at the wing stage I need to adjust for the scuttle closer I maywell just make one to fit rather that re doing it all.

Thanks alot,

Graham
