Since a well known mini tuner on the A303 made a real mess of painting my head, twice, I would like to try and rectify the problem myself.

Is it possible to satisfactorily strip the head and repaint it while still on the block, in the engine bay? I will be removing inlet and exhaust manifolds over winter so that would be an ideal time.

Or is it not really worth the effort, and should I remove the head? I have never done that before hence my concern.

I would remove the head, it not a long job and good practice too. Just make sure you keep the valves in the correct order and torque the head bolts up correctly when you put it back etc
