im going to upgrade my standard ice what would be a decent mp3 head unit and components (size of im not sure) for the rear shelf, what would those in the know recommend on a budget of £200, and does anyone know if 6x9 subs exist and wound they fit under the rear seats as the boot is in constant use so no room for a sub there. cheers nathan

Okay an mp3 h/u and some 5" speakers for £200 aint too difficult.
I wouldn't bother with the 6x9 subs unless you are gonna fit some front speakers (the subs will over power the shelf speakers).
The best way as people will tell you would be to ditch the shelf speakers and fit some up front in some decent pods.
If you want to keep them on the shelf then i'd get a cheapish headunit, some 5" speakers for the rear shelf or if you don't mind cutting some 6.5" would be far better and would give a decent level of bass.
5" components
JBL GTO506Ce £60
or
6" components
JBL GTO6506Ce £65
Magnat The Rock 400 £50
Pioneer DEH-4700MP £85

Hi there, i have got 6x9's and they are worth it!!!. they are on my parcel shelf, i madea board for them so i didn't have to chop up my existing shelf.
Kenwood 4x 50watt Mp3 head unit. ---- £100
Mutant 6x9's ----- £40
Mutant 4 channel amp (400watt each channel)------- £70
TOTAL ----- £210
i went all the way and had;
Kenwood 4x 50watt Mp3 head unit. ---- £100
Mutant 6x9's ----- £40
Mutant 4 channel amp (400watt each channel)------- £70
Mutant 10" Sub ------ £40
Mutant door speakers ------- £30
TOTAL ---- £280
IT WAS WELL WORTH IT!!! ---- Superb Quality and Unbearably loud when only half volume. MINT!!! The bass aint bad either. My brother was sik because he was sitting in the back against the boot where the sub is!!!

Well this was what i thought when i fitted a pair of JBL 6x9's to my mini some 7 ish years ago, i thought they were the dogs but then i went to a couple of shows and heard a few systems running a single sub and a decent front end.IT WAS WELL WORTH IT!!! ---- Superb Quality and Unbearably loud when only half volume. MINT!!! The bass aint bad either.
Then i fitted a 12" JBL sub and some 5" JBL coaxs upront and the difference was astounding.
If you compare your steup to a standard setup in most cars then it will sound really good, but when you hear a half decent setup you will realise that there are parts of songs you've never heard before because your 6x9's simply aren't capable of producing them.

pooky - dont tell anyone, but I'm running my Audiobahns through a Mutant amp :nugget:
have to admit, it does the job pretty well! And I'll only be upgrading when I can afford it, as I doubt I'll be able to hear the difference whilst my speakers are mounted rather dodgily
and agreed philster - you can only compare to what you've seen before. It's a bit like showing a caveman a £3 hammer from B&Q - it's really rather rubbish, but he's never seen any better, so he thinks its the best thing in the world!
Same thing applies to 6x9s and rear speakers - until you've heard a decent system that uses NEITHER of these 2 factors, you'll think that it's good to use them
