hi everybody..
i basically would like to get my mini restored (as total standard..)and garaged and keep it as a classic, just to use every so often..( at the moment its my one and only car and daily driver.)(also bear in mind its only a 1993 mayfair, and i'm 32yrs old)and to buy a second run around car for me to use as a main car...
I am sure lots of you guys do this! Now my question is: since i am going to be the only driver of both, is it any way to insure both vehicles as cheaply as possible? As any of you have this kind of deal with any insurance company? Also been only a 1993 mayfair could classify my car as classic?

I would try simply phoning your current insurers and asking to add a second car to the policy, some allow it, some don't.
At 32 (im assuming you have a few years NCB under your belt) i cant see any increase in premium although i would expect to pay the fees (anything from £15 to £150 in my experience)

I have an Admiral multicar policy but i am only 19 so it is a costly option to insure both my 1.4 zetec fiesta (2002) and my City E (1985)

Generally your own insurers will only add a second car for a limited time (i.e. you have bought a new one and are getting rid of the old one).

What you are looking for is a fleet policy. There are some but generally they only work out cheaper on more than two vehicles and they tend to be quite restrictive as to the ages of vehicles covered or any modifications (yes I know you say your Mini is standard).

In the motorbike world you can get a few policies which will cover a classic bike and a daily driver car but unless someone has found one I think we're still waiting for something similar that will cover a classic car and a daily car.

I watch with interest in case someone has found a policy to do what you want though that I haven't found yet (I have six cars).

I've got a 206cc as everyday car & a mini on a seperate policy, easy as chips just can't use or get any NCB on the mini

I have about 5 cars now on a multicar policy with admiral - some of them im insured to drive alone, some of them my wife can only drive and others we can both drive - not sure about the savings to be had, and there may be cheaper ways to do it but it does allow both my wife and I to build up seperate no claims on one policy.

I should imagine a 93 could be insured on a classic policy - my camper is 1996 and I have it on a classic policy with limited mileage of 1000 miles a year.

Try getting a multicar quote from admiral over the phone and explain about the limited miles/classic/ thing. This is why other countries are better when they insure the driver not the vehicle, after all why should I pay 5 sets of 'risk' when the maximum number of vehicles I can drive at one time is 1 :S

Based on the principal that you can only drive one car at one time. I'm gonna check them out next year when my mondeo and bike expire and the mini is on the road

Try one of the specialist mini insurance companies, if you transfer your existing car insurance & no claims discount to them, many will offer a "mirror policy" for your second car, where they will "mirror" your no claims bonus onto the second policy (so effectively you get to apply your no claims bonus to both policies). Also if you are insuring a mini, then you really should consider one of the specialist insurers, so that you can get an agreed valuation policy. The last thing you want is your pride and joy being insured for the so called "Market Value" that is applied to non specialist policies.

For classic insurance policy purposes different companies seem to have different criteria, some work on 15 years, some 20 years and others 25 years. My mini is also a 1993 model and I'm insured through "HIC" who recognise it as a classic.

Yes, you can only drive one car at a time, but they can both be stolen or burnt out at the same time!

I'll also be interested to see what people do in this situation as loads of people must do it!
