Weight Of Standard Mk 3 Boot Lid

Just woundered what the weight of just the lid itself (no locks, hinges, lights etc). Fibre glass double skin is 1.75 Kg

Don't know about a mk3 but my mk2 lid (without all the gubbins) is 5.8kg.

The mk2 lid with all the gubbins is 7.5kg

If you are trying to make your Mini accelerate better then a saving of 4kg on its own won't make much difference. You would get the same improvement with 5.5 litres less petrol in the tank or by going on a diet. It is less then 0.6% of the weight of the vehicle. So a change of boot lid would only be worthwhile if it is part of a weight-saving project involving numerous parts of your vehicle, which together add up to something which is significant.

It is one of numerous parts to cut the weight, windows and bonnet are next.
Whats the score with fibre glass or carbon fibre roofs. I'm toying with the idea but not sure on rigidity etc?

No idea about fibreglass roof.

Mk2 glass weighs 22kg and bonnet 7.7kg.

do you know any were that sells them as i was looking 4 a smooth double skin boot?
