Hi Guys,
I've just finished putting my car back together with a pre verto setup (it was verto).
Everything is new so nothing should be worn.
I have a very slight judder when letting the clutch out when going along and changing into another gear but this isn't much and not always noticeable, more when changing down than going up.
The main problem is when starting from a standstill. At low revs, it will judder massively when i let the clutch in. If i rev it to 3k ish and set off its fine but this isn't really practical when manuvering around. I've been out in it tonight and put some about 20 miles on it now and it has got better but its still far from acceptable.
Can anyone suggest what could be causing this?

Cheers

Dave.

maybe a bit of oil on the clutch causing it to slip

I bled it when changing over the slave cylinders. The clutch works fine, you can press it and select gears easily, plus the bite point feels about right.

Engine mounts are all good and i didn't have the problem when i took it apart 3 weeks ago. Its got a lower gearbox steady, standard upper that had new bushes in last week as the old ones were worn and an ultimate engine steady. It doesn't move anywhere, pretty solid really.

Keep the suggestions coming please.

It was all clean when i put it together and it has a new oil seal in the flywheel housing.
Plus i left the plastic dust sheild on the primary between the oil seal and the clutch so should stop any oil getting near the clutch.

The strange thing is that its fine when you pull away at higher revs.

Umm. Minispares light roadweight flywheel
Minispares pressure plate
AP racing bonded road/rally plate
orange diaphram
all balanced and bought off of classifed's

longer clutch arm (plus clevis pins both ends)
clutch plunger
clutch release bearing
slave cylinder

all new and all pre verto

could be i guess, but it was all professionally balanced so i would have thought it would have been picked up then?

Dunno best way of phasing this, but you never see a race car pull away at 1500 rpm, I would say it was the characteristics of some of the clutch parts fitted like the diapham and the clutch plate.

Yeah i know what your saying there, but i wouldn't class the diaphram and plate as race, more fast road as there are more harsher options like a grey diaphram and paddle or sintered plate.

Does anyone else with a similar setup have this? is it just normal for the spec i've now got?

HI

I have a very similar setup to you and am also having the same problem

orange diaphragm
minispares lightened road flywheel
minispares pressure plate (not the cheap quinton hazel type)
ap clutch plate (cheaper type)
2 straps fitted.

I used to have the verto setup but switched to the pre-verto to help with my engine power. I managed to eliminate the problem by using the latest type of pre-verto plunger with floating release bearing. HOWEVER I kept snapping the ball of the end of the clutch arm, the final straw was when it snapped in the worst place imaginable, i was quite angry, and i stripped first gear! So now i am using the super strong heavy duty black arm and plunger from MED, but the bearing on this is a press fit.. so its juddery on pull away at low revs.

I dont think the flywheel or even the cbackplate have been balanced, there are no balancing marks anywhere and certainly no A marks on the backplate,. that may be the problem. I do not know of any engineering shops that can offer that service these days.

Glad to know i'm not the only one!
Not sure which type of release bearing i have, i'll try to find out.
I'm not sure where the chap i bought it from got it balanced, but i has clearly been balanced even down to the 3 drive strap bolt being numbered up.

yup, I've used a new plunger and the press release bearing, and at low revs i get some real judder, i think its more obvious in my moke due to the open nature of it.
