I know this is not a mini related question but I have a mini and a question.

I am selling a camera on ebay and I have had 3 different emails now from people abroad wanting to buy the camera for more than its worth.

Is this a new scheme or is it for real?

Any help will be very useful
Thanks

hm that is very tricky, any idea of location? theres heavy internet scams in Nigeria, i was selling a PSP on ebay and when the auction ended i had an email from the winning bidder asking if i could send it to nigeria and they would pay for it all but never recievd any form of payment so just sold it to the second highest bidder

if i were you id avoid it, even if it isnt a scam it will save you hassle and cost of sending it abroad

I often buy from UK ebay as a foreign buyer. And sometimes people aren't willing to deal with "us" but most are, it is really no extra hassle, as the buyer still pays teh postage costs.

I would say you are safe 99% of the time - If they pay via paypal make sure the money is actually there and not "pending". I would be wary of people saying they have not received the item however as 10 times out of 10 ebay and paypal side with the buyer. Check the potential buyers history and go form there.

Just beware that they might say they haven't received the item, then you are out of pocket and have no item!

To be fair I might just tell the guy to go away lol

Yes they can, if your account is empty then paypal will refund the buyer anyway and then just debit your paypal account, effectively making you overdrawn. You will then owe payapl the cash and they will either ask you to add funds to your account to cover the defecit or just automatically take it from your credit card.

just cover your own ass send it recorded post only and make sure you keep the receipt until the buyer has received the item and left your feedback then if it doesnt arrive at least you can claim your money back

At least the OP got an offer for more than he was asking, recently whist advertising the mini on ebay somebody offered me £0.01 for it,
thought it might have been a mate taking the pee, but wasnt,

I do send items abroad, always check any buyers feedback, at home or away and I always post via recoreded signed for, peace of mind really

Its a scam steer clear. I have seen this before and no money exchanges at all. Yes most overseas buyers are fine but for some reason Nigeria seems to be a hot bed for ebay scamming. Its up to you but be careful don't get burnt, it may be tempting but i am not the only one to say its a scam. We have been buying and selling on ebay for a long time and we have seen various scams and have been stung once but never again.

If you are selling by auction just tell the prospective buyers to place there offer as a bid. If they are serious then they will do this. If they are not they will go just go away. If they leave a bid, chances are someone else may bid more, so it's smiles all round.
When selling to oveseas buyers always send by a tracked (and signed for) delivery service, that way you are insured against loss and the buyer can not really claim for non delivery. I sell loads of stuff to overseas buyers and rarely have any problems. As for teh cost of sending, as the buyers pay for teh shipping there is no more cost for me than if I sent it to a UK buyer.
