Hi
I m about to fit the gerbox to my mini engine and first need to fit the "half moon" seal. It goes at the timing cover end of the gearbox.

From the picture, which way around does it go? does the flange side (shown on the right), go abainst the front plate for the timing cover? Also, is it best to fit to the engine first? I have some gasket compund which i think i need to use also

Thanks
John

The flanged edge should be to the outside of the engine to stop it falling into the gearbox,
Its easier to fit ive found if the timing cover plate is on as it stops it from squashing out when the block and box go together

By what Minim@t was saying, the photo on this thread shows the seal the wrong way around. Which is right?

Its easiest to fit the seal to the engine (upside down) then fit the gearbox to the engine rather than seal on box and fit engine to it.
The fat edge of the seal goes against the timing front plate.

Thats the way i've always chosen to do it, then its just a case of turning the engine up the right way.
