Please give your topic a title that quickly describes your problem. Just putting 'Help my Mini doesn't work' is useless to anyone trying to help.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Model: Mini Cooper S
Year: 2009
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible): I want to get spotlights put on the front but the Mini garage want 500 pounds to do it, I am not remotely technical and couldn't do this myself but wondered if anywhere else could fit them and for a lot less money?
Also I want to get the number 6 on my doors as it is my lucky number but someone at the garage said it is illegal? Is that true?
Thanks and your time is appreciated
Mike
Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem?
I put spot lights on an AX for about £30 plus 3 hours work.
1 relay, some wire, some connectors, some soldering, take the bumper off and drill 2 holes, reassemble.
They looked naff, but I lived in the Yorkshire Dales and extra lights pointing around the corners allowed a quicker commute to the big city. That's right, I pointed the right hand one, to light up left hand corners and vice versa.
Why would having graphics on your car be illegal ?
Pretty sure having door numbers isnt illegal , dont see why it would be?
And you could take your car to any auto electrician , they'd be able to do it much cheaper.
I think numbering implied you are entered in a road rally? Which is why any numbering is ok, IF you have a "strikethrough" line through it.
If my experience of BMW garages is anything to go by, they'll probably forget to connect them up and leave anything else they've touched hanging off!!
One the numbers you might find this thread on another site useful. Numbers on the doors are not illegal.
http://www.pistonhea...a... Road legal?
On the spot lights, if you get them fitted the ECU needs to be reprogrammed to make them work, check that your fitters can do this.
someone in my club wanted an agreed value put on their mini, when they saw the external side on pictures he sent they wouldnt insure him,
because of the road rally, im fairly certain rally cars when driving on the roads between stages should strike through the numbers on the side.
its one of those you'll get away with 99% of the time but it only takes one following the letter of the law to the dot.
You can display door numbers if you wish (although can't imagine why?) - it's the Rally Regs that require you to remove numbers (or strike through) if you retire from the event.
If you are not actually competing in a rally, what would a number on the doors actually be intended to signify?
It's not illegal, although it might make the 'Old Bill' take a bit more interest in you. To those in the know, it just shows that you don't actually have a Competition Licence.
In the end, it's just your choice.
