A little question: what camshaft do you suggest for a 1380 fast road engine?
Thanks

Kent 276/286 are very popular.

A 1380 will have more potential torque and if you optimise this advantage you'll get a goood road engine with nice characteristics. The 276 would indeed be a very good cam, but a 286 might also be excellent, although note that the 286 gives max power at 6400 rpm, and you might not want to use those sort of revs to make it go at its best on a road engine.
Alternatively, the MG Metro cam or the Kent 266 (very similar profiles & lift) would make a very sweet and driveable, but powerful, engine for road use.
On a 1380 it is important to ensure that the head is really free-flowing, especially with a 'hotter' cam, and that the carburation can flow sufficient mixture in.
I hope this helps.

HI,

I am currently rebuilding my 1970 Morris Mini and have just had a 1380 engine built. The cam is a 276 as a 286 is a little too hot for my idea of fast road use, as already mentioned, the power band is higher up on the rev range for a 286 and therefore putting more strain on the engine getting the max power/torque out. Also, the idling of a 286 cam can be a bit 'lumpy', and is not ideal for driving in traffic.
The head I am using is a skimmed, polished and ported MG metro one, as it using valve sizes near-as-dammit the same as most stage-3 heads. This works out cheaper than a stage-3 and provides the appropriate power/torque needed for a very good fast road engine.

Hope this helps.
Neil.

I have a 286 on mine and would pretty much agree with the comments on it. Although I don't find it a problem in traffic and it will hold max power from 5900rpm - 7000rpm, with 90+ ft/lbs from 3700rpm - 6450rpm.

I've just been through the same dilemma... ended up opting for AC Dodd's "AC-RS+" (see here). Not fitted it yet as the engine is in pieces waiting to be rebuilt (hopefully during January).

Cheers,
Colin.

Ok..i take a 276.
Is ok with a 1:3:1 rocker roller?

p.s=another question: a standard hif44 is good with 1380?

The 1.3:1 rockers will be OK.
As for carburation, an HIF44 should be good so long as you have a decent inlet manifold. If you were going to a 286 twin HS4's would give a little more at the top end, but the HIF44 is good for 6000 rpm plus and will give good mid-range torqu with the 276.
