Im looking to paint the roof of my mini (yellow if that matters). But I am thinking that trying to paint it in the garage with rattle cans will just look a bit naff. Has anyone done this and if so how good was it and are there any tips you could give. Alternativly does anyone know someone local to Halesowen (Birmingham) who you would recoment (and what are the sort of prices for just a roof)
Cheers
Steve

Trouble is, the roof (and bonnet) are the two areas where imperfection is most noticeable plus as theyre flat panels lots falling dust will settle on them making it tricky to polish up afterwards

if you can get a big piece of plastic sheet then that helps to pin it up in the garage around the car to keep the dust down. youll be able to get a half decent finish with rattle cans, and if you put the time in to do it all properly then it can give some very nice results that are just about as good as a proper spray job.

Personally I'd hire a compressor & spray gun for a day or weekend and have a go yourself with some celly, you will get a few practices with primer coats to start to get the hang of it, before moving on to the top coat. If you get it wrong, you can just rub it down & start again, it's a great way to learn and you can usually turn a rather imperfect DIY paint job into something pretty good by flatting back and cutting/polishing after. A roof isn't the easiest place to start for a novice, but it can be made slightly easier by jacking up one side of the car and letting some of the air out of the tyres on the opposite side, so that you are spraying at a slightly less horizontal angle.
