Mini special editions : 1979 1100 Special on AROnline:
"When people discuss special edition Minis, the popular perception is that this is phenomenon that kicked off during the late-1980s in order to sell more cars. But pretty much from the moment the Mini was launched back in 1959, dealers as well as its maker built bespoke and upgraded versions. However, it’s the 1979 20th anniversary edition – the 1100 Special – that probably remains AROnline‘s favourite of all."

A Mini's a Mini in my opinion, it doesn't really matter how the factory tarted them up, but the Cooper S will always be regarded by most as the most desirable/favourite Mini.
Just wish I'd kept mine....

mini cooper s's are well out of the reach (and rediculously overpriced) of most people, and are far more common than the 1100 specials, you obviously don't like the 1100 specials otherwise you wouldn't make such a comment, the 1100 special was a milestone in the mini's production, thats why they are sought after now.............a lot more than you obviously think!!

Link below to the many 'period' B&W photos from the Mini 20th in 1979 posted here by 'Old Drag Racer' back in 2010.......as many newer TMF members may not have seen them before:
