Hi,

I was intending to use this idler gear in my 998 engine I am building.

Looking closely at the shaft surface edge it is quite pitted/damaged therefore I assume it is only good for the bin? >:o

Also, this came from a 1974 998 engine I aquired for donation parts, like this part, however I thought the idler gear should have a longer shaft on one side than the other. This one does not, therefore leads me to think how and why this earlier type idler made it's way into this engine? Am I right in thinking the shaft on the gearbox side should be longer than the other? I guess they might have made them longer to avoid this kind of damage?

If anyone has a spare they could offer me in good condition for a reasonable sum, please pm me....... :D

Ta, Luke

It does look a bit suspect - and yes I believe that was the reason for the longer shaft.
