Been wiring in a radio today. I had a live feed and earth already wired in from a previous radio perhaps? Initially thought the wiring was permenant live but it would appear not as the headunit looses complete power when the ignition is in the engine running position. But anyway i digress. I just want to know if there is anywhere i can piggyback a permanent live feed from the engine bay? I dont fancy running a wire from my battery, its much easier to stuff a wire through the bulkhead somewhere.
Thanks in advance guys.

Check first with a voltmeter, but if i can remember right the second terminal down on the fuse box is permanent, should be brown wire

look for a big brown wire ( usually terminal 1 on the fuse box ), that's your permanent live....

I assume this is for the head unit memory, which means you will NEED an inline fuse and would recommend something about 2 or 3 amp

Permanent live, as per out of factory position on the fusebox, is the 2nd fuse down, if that helps at all

i would only use a permanent feed for memory because it wouldn't be ideal for the battery to power the radio from a permanent live feed... if anything i would power the radio off the ignition line to help prolong the battery life unless you were planning on a larger battery...

Ignition feed is taken from close to the black connectors on the car side of the loom coming off the steering column, Green wire with white tracer. (Look for it already being there before you make another)
Permanent from 2nd down on the fuse box, as thats all he asked for, but now he knows both :D

Cheers guys. The feed that was already wired in does indeed come off green ignition wire. So ill just hook up an inline fuse to the second fuse down.

If you have a spare terminal on the second fuse down, then connect a suitably rated wire to it with a crimp on <you>Female Spade Connector</you>, using a suitable <you>Crimping Tool</you>. Then crimp on an <you>In line Fuse Holder</you> somewhere along the wire between the fusebox and the appliance that you are fitting using <you>In line Crimp Connectors</you>. If you do not have a spare terminal on the fuse box, then remove an existing spade connector from one of the existing wires connected to the second fuse down and then crimp on a <you>"piggy back" spade connector</you> in its place. Reconnect the existing wire to the fuse box and then attach your new wire to the spare terminal you have created on the piggy back connector using a new female crimp on spade connector.

Faulty wiring is a common cause of vehicle fire, if you are at all unsure about undertaking this work yourself then disconnect the battery before you start and get an auto electrician or other competent person to check your wiring & connections before reconnecting the battery.
