not working -

1. low beam **now working**
2. high beam **now working**
3. brake lights **now working**
4. offside rear light **now working**

working

1. high beam flash
2. indicators
3. nearside rear light
4. hazards
5. sidelights

so far because i had good spares laying about i replaced the headlight switch, fusebox (4 glass fuse type in engine bay) and checked every in line fuse i can find, still pretty stumped

Check and clean all the wiring connections behind the front grille. You should find a bunch of them near the bonnet catch. The bullet connections for the headlamp wiring are notorious for causing lighting problems.

offside rear light fixed, bloke down minispares gave me the wrong fiment bulb, the pins were offset on original where as the new bulb had them paralel, so basically had no connection.

now on to the headlights, high beam is working but still no low beam, the wiring behind the grille was taken off one blue/red wire instead of 2 (one rh one lh) i switched one to the lh wiring and that now works, but no power is going to the right hand still, i know there is a join further up the loom from a higher power rating wire (same coulours blue/red) but not sure where the join is, anybody got any idea before i strip the entire loom of its tape?

i had to unwrap the loom in the end, found a burned out bit of wire behind the dashboard, just out of the main loom that goes into the in line fueses behind the speedo.

so im thinking because someone has wired the 2 headlights off of one wire, its burned out the wire instead of the fuse. might have been alright with the sealed beams but i swapped them out last week for wipac freeforms, maybe they draw more power which stressed the connection. well its all sorted now so i have everything back how it should be, just before it got dark to :)

thanks for the help

Jonathan

I can only find a relay diagram in the MPi manual. The manual I have has a 200+ page section that shows all the electrical connections. I got my manual on Ebay as a CD. The one you want is called the RAVE manual as it has the 5th edition Mini manual on it which has the MPi upto 2000. Other CD Manuals only cover upto the Spi (1996), so check if you do get one from Ebay.
