Please give your topic a title that quickly describes your problem. Just putting 'Help my Mini doesn't work' is useless to anyone trying to help.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Model:Mini 35
Year:1996
Description of problem : When i am driving along i have a knocking noise coming from the passenger side front but cant determain what the problem is.....
its had new wheel bearing, ball joints, shockers and cv outers,
Everything is greased but it is getting worse...
Any ideas of what it could be or has anyone had this before??
Cheers
[b]Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem?
Brake dust covers? The bits of metal behind the discs, they can make all sorts of noises, especially if one of the mounting brackets is broken.
Does the noise increase with road speed?
Is it more prominent when turning or going straight?
Do bumps in the road effect it?
it seems to do it at any speed going streight or cornering.... bumps in the road do effect it .. it sort of crashes when i hit one... the brake covers are fine... its more of a banging than a tinny sound like you would get off the covers .........
cheers
Loose damper ? Remove the damper and do a short road test to see if the problem disappears! Are the subby mounts all good - and any cracks in the floor ??
Are the cones/doughnuts in good condition, is the car sitting on the bump stops?
I had some loud bangs with mine, cones were sagged so it was pretty much on the bump stops, didn't half make a loud bang when hitting potholes.
How about checking bush/rubber at top of subframe turret.
Subframe bushes also check the mounting areas for breaks and cracks
Inner wings can crack just infornt of the damper mounts
Rear trailing arm pins worn
Petty sure that the doughnuts are ok... its not on its bumpstops and the knuckle joints are fine. I went for a blast down the motorway last night and when i came to the top of slip road and did some heavy braking it sounded BAD..... crashing noise but at a constant. next thing in line is bottom arm bushes in poly..... any other suggestions?
cheers
Why poly? You'd be much better with some proper good quality rubber ones for the lower arms.
And if you've got adjustable arms, get the Mini Spares offset bushes.
