A good few years ago now I remember scrapyards being full of Mini's, Allegro's, Marina's, Metro's, maestro's, montego's the list goes on. Today I was at my local scrapyard and I found it to be stuffed full with lots of MG/Rover cars. This got me wondering are there any parts suitable the MPI Mini's, Ideally I mean "Go Faster" parts but are there any parts at all that are the same as the Mini that are worth saving.

Roof aerials on the MPI are the same as the 25, 45 etc.

i think ( not 100% sure ) the ecu off the mgtf fits also the throttle body

I think the MGF radiator is same as MPi. Also steering wheel and stalks.

I wonder would either this ecu or the throttle body help in realising any more performance in the MPI.

like i stated im not 100% about the ECU
the cap from the expansion tank is the same black plastic one ( not the rad )

no its not, have you ever looked at the two side by side?
The k series is a mpi unit yes, but the mpi mini uses 2 not 4 so the ecu is different configuration
The spi can be tuned using modified metro 1.4 spi. but not by simply bolting things on
You may be able to find a throttle body that you can modify to fit the mini inlet
This is why mini's were so expensive to produce towards the end. Rover had to recoupe the losses after having to comply with emissions and noise regs

I was hoping everyone would have bombarded this thread with lovley bits we could have robbed from the scrappers, is there hardly anything we can salvage for our MPI Mini's. For sure then roof aerials and coolant expansion tank cap, is that the lot or do you know of any other parts.

Washer bottles were used on mgfs and lotus elise
Interior mirror for the mpi (stuck on the screen type) is peugeot 106
Nothing of any relavance fits mini's as a direct fit, things can be made to fit but not as a standard replacement

I've been into 'scrapyard' tuning for over 40 years and always find simple pleasure in finding bits from one (usually cheaper - being a Yorkshireman!) vehicle (bikes and cars) that fit another. I know from my own experience that the column stalks from '97 on Honda Civic fit MPI and if you want you can use the rear wash/wipe facility as I have on my MPI Clubman Estate. I have also just modded a 52mm alloy throttle body from an MG ZR, but that entailed me making a new modified throttle spindle. It has made a very noticeable improvement, but I put the old one back to do some timings for 30 - 60mph for comparison and then it snowed! I'll have to wait to share the exact results. I THINK the headlamp motor drive units are common to other Rover stuff (200, 400 series), but have not checked by substitution and test yet. After that it's down to insignificant stuff like alternators, bulbs, bolts, fuses and grommets I'm afraid.

Some of these mods are on my web site

As has been said I can only guess it would be small things like nuts, bolts, grommits, fuses, bulbs etcetera. I know the door pillar switches for the alarm are the same as whats on my 25, as has been said the stalks and wheel from the mgf. I have had the idea to fit the radio remote from a rover 25 onto my mini mpi steering wheel, it will fit straight on, it will just require a little rewiring of the airbag and drill 2 holes in the wheel to accept the screws, you wont be able to see the screws though as it will be covered up by the airbag. Locking wheel nuts were the same on the alloy wheels, as far as i'm aware theres not much you can simply bolt on. Although when I get my mpi back from the body shop I think I will have to spend some time comparing my 25 and mini.

A lot of the sensors from a k-series are the same, the lambda being the best as it has longer wires which means you don't have to cut and extend your original when you have a lcb with the proper lambda location in the collector.

a throttle bodie of a Mg Zr, TF , Rover 75, Rover 200 anything up to 120mm will do you :) i think can't remember the sizes to save my life

Edit:

also i think not a million percent sure but i think the MG injectors are bigger and don't need coding :sneaky:

The side indicators from most Rovers/MGs. Relays. Wiper motor from an MGF can be retrofitted. Seats can be retrofitted. Steering wheel from MGF isnt quite the same but it can also be retrofitted. Headlight units from Defenders. Front and rear indicator units from Defenders too. None of these are really 'Go faster' parts though... But a useful source of spares!
