I have rebuilt my calipers and would like my brake fluid switch to work (it hasnt since I had the car)

I took the switch out and there are 3 wires connected; black with white tracer x2 to the back of the switch, and a black with white tracer to a blade connector on the switch. The other blade connector is not conected, should it be?

There is a purple (perm live) near the switch but not connected.

Any advice greatly recieved, thanks.

(and yes I have searched, but the search returns 50+ pages for 'brake fluid switch'!!)

Purple to one of the blades on the side, short black/white to the other one and the other end of that wire to a pin on the back where it joins the other black/white. And the plain black to the other pin.

and on top of the cap there should be black and white x2?

If this doesnt work, i assume the bulb may have gone in the switch? Can these be changed?

Cheers

Yes of course, it's just a bulb. One side of the cap should be earthed, the other connected to the switch.
