Hi all,

I've seen the recent thread regarding m machine panels and there quality, has anyone used magnum classic mini panels before? There was a brochure in a recent Mini magazine and they do a go good amount.

Any comments appreciated.

Chris

Hit and miss.

I'm under the impression that magnum and hadrian are either linked or similar?

I've pulled stickers off a magnum panel to find a hadrian one underneath and vice versa??!!

It depend what you want to fit.

Is there any way of collecting the information to make a chart showing which panels from who seem to be a better fit?

I suppose it also depends on who butchered the car previously (I know the gap between my door and A panel is so big I can put my finger in there! it looks as though its just been bent flat and welded!)

If it doesn't exist I'll offer to try and put one together.

Dan.

that could be useful as I need to start buying panels for my mpi which has all original panels still on it, has anyone tried the magnum mpi front panel? they sell for £60 and a heritage one is £150

Panel that are ok as pattern

Wings
Front panel
A-panel
Door steps
Front floor pan/floor repair panels
Door skins(if you don't mind tweaking)

Panels that need to be genuine

Scuttle
Boot lower hinge repair panel
Door skins(for perfect and easy fit)
Rear 1/4(some horrible pattern ones out there and quality is hit and miss)

Thats just a basic list, if you've got a specific panel in mind post it up and see if anyones tried to fit it(and how sucessfull they were!!)

I think a list is a fantastic idea and would be great.....But I think there are to many variables. I may fit a panel from one place and say its good but someone else who fits the same panel may have a nightmare of a job and totally disagree. I definatly think its a great idea though.

I use them and they're fine. The metal is a little thinner but the fit is ok.

I've got a pair in the garage ready to go on my car.

I've had a "genuine" (mmm ebay) boot hinge repair panel and under the rover hologramed sticker was a magnum sticker.

I have found Magnum panel to be ok.

Just a thought though, my local motor factor offers them cheaper than buying direct from Magnum so have an ask around. They get good trade discount which they pass enough on to be cheaper to the public.

A further question though if someone can confirm or otherwise, the heelboard panels from Magnum are apparently made with metric threaded nuts attached instead of imperial. Has anyone found this to be the case?

I have one of these. They originate from x part in desford leicestershire. I chased this issue up and was told that Rover adopted good pattern parts if they are up to spec and put rover stickers over the top.

X part told me that the the stock of these is very old as when X part was set up they inherited a vast quantity from Rover. Not sure how true this is, but if they are good enough for Rover they must be ok?

I was a little peeved that I spent extra money on this panel thinking it was genuine, whereas I could have bought the same panel for a lot less direct from Magnum. Not fitted it yet, so can't comment on the fit.

Edit, the guy at X part told me all the remaining stock was stickered up the same, with a hologram sticker over the Magnum sticker.

I bought two skins for my doors, one from Magnum and one genuine. The magnum skin took around 4 hours extra to fit, the gap between the door edge and rear qtr was huge, in the end I ended up building the gap up with MIG weld and grinding it back. The genuine skin was simple to fit, took less than 2 hours to achieve a perfect fit.

I've also had a battery box from Magnum, never again. Was not level with the boot floor and required some beating.

However, for sills and A Panels they're fine. :ermm:

Well since it was probably me that raised their name I should probably let you know my experiences.

I fitted a front panel (which did have metric captive nuts by the way so I'd bet on the heelboards also having them).
Front wings
A-panels
Sills

with no problems. Door steps were the only panels that needed replacing that I had bought that just didn't fit. The long folds were nowhere near the originals so I just dropped them and grabbed Hadrian ones instead which were pretty much spot on.

Iain
