Howdy!

Just wanted to ask some of you more knowledgeable folk if I can get +20 rings for 19320 Pistons believe it to be an AE piston. apparently these were replaced by the P21253 pistons so would the rings for the newer pistons fit the older ones?

I believe they are the original cooper S etc pistons but I may be wrong

The obligatory google search brings up a few results one of which is below, but I am still looking for a place which actually sells the rings so if anyone can help that would be great.

Mini Cooper S, 1071cc 1963-64 4 70.63 1.59 1.59 4.00 - - - 1251 F
1300 GT, 1300cc 1967-73 2.780 1-K 1-SK 1-O
(AE Piston #19320 & V1)

Cheers guys

Rob

Rings can be gotten for almost any piston. If not available from Auto outlets try an engineering firm like Thorntons of Shrewsbery 01743 357081. As long as you have the piston diamiter, ring depth and ring thickness, they are able to make them for you. I had some made for a Norton twin about a year ago and they cost me £4.50 per piston and £2.75 for oil scrapers per piston so not expensive at all but have proven to be verry good rings.

Not to worry I have spoken with mini Spares and they have told me that these rings are no longer available which is a shame but there you go.

@ Jay

Thanks for that info its good to know. I think its probably better in the long run to go for a more modern piston incase i run into any problems. Its good that specialists can produce rings that are out of production though.

hi all i have read this thread and have rung mini spares and sport and they told me the same that these pistons are no longer avalible nor the rings but thorntons of shrewsbury do have them in stock! i was also told that AE stopped producing these piston and ring nearly 20 years ago! however they were the stock item for large bore cooper 1071 and 1275 cc and the van de plas! thought this might be of use to some of you

Thorntons bought a lot of old stock from AE some years ago, so they are always worth a try for obsolete engine parts. They also supply current production parts and imported makes too.

And their service is really excellent. Ordered a set a 2-45 one afternoon and they arrived at 8-50 the next morning.
