If you want a nice spec engine and have the funds then i'd bore the block to make it 998cc get the cylinder head fitted with wills rings, fit a R17 camshaft and twin strombergs either 125's or 150's or even SU's on a decent manifold if you can find one, couple this with a Janspeed/sport exhaust manifold and you'll have a fun driveable engine.
If you haven't already you can check the imp club for more info.
I'm keeping my eye on this thread.

the imp came with lot of spares ,twin strombergs/manifolds/heads/exausts e.t.c which i presume the previous owner was collecting to do this conversion, but i want to keep it original body, paint and engine, if i was going to keep it i would defo mod engine and change colour, my sister has lots of imps from concours to track day sort, but i want to keep mini loche blue with old english white wheels and chrome hub caps and its engine it had in 67`, ive also got original sales reciept, rootes warranty, the fist owners AA mebership and bumper badge, all old mots and service book, the imp accesorys books.Sounds like a nice project, my brother was going to get one for his first car but went for a Rover Metro gti. Are you planning any engine modifications as these beasts can rev to 9000rpm when you go down the 998cc route. Have you thought about running an imp sport cylinder head, twin 125 strombergs, sport manifold, sport cam/R17.
