A bias pedal box gives a constant reduction to the rear (at all braking pressures), so if you only use that your brakes will not be as effective. The best combination is probably a bias pedal box AND a bias valve for the rear.
Isn't that what you have got??
A detent (lever) type is probably better for rallying where the surface changes, and you can quickly select a setting (eg tarmac to gravel) but they are not as finely adjustable as the variable type which is probably better for race tracks in the dry, where you just set it up and leave it.

i have an adjustable bias box. with the adjuster in the car for quick and easy set up.the problem with a bias valve is that if you are on a twisty road and are using the brakes like mad then there is a posibility that your rear brakes will lock up because the pressure cannot return quickly enough hence the reason all competition cars are fitted with a bias pedle box and not the valve

as long as it is put together properly and all the safty requirments are met there is no reason why you cannot race e.g. car is totally firewalled to the driver compartment probably the most important thing for scrutineering. and i had my cage incorporate extra braces for saftey and seat belt mounts because the original mounts are not strong enough.i am currently in the sports libre class which is for modified cars and one offs

best way would be join jour nearest car club go to a meeting and get advice from some one or get in touch with a scrutineer they can check your car and advise before you go to a race

once you have all the gear e.g. fire suit, helmet, race licence and the car ready it can be as expensive as you want
