This is not a small project, if you have never tried welding before get a welding course booked because the welding required in this is crutial to the structure.
This is only how i would do it but definately not an official guide.
Add some decent, well attatched bracing, box section is easiest. Decide how much you want to shorten it. Mark how much you are shortening it on the box.
Decide where you want to cut it, through the door step is what is done most as there is the quarter panel to fill up the door gap.
Chop off the roof
Cut it all the way through and cut out the shortened length from the floor body and the box then match the 2 halfs together, the box should then line up square with each other and the body will still be in line. weld it all up and fill all the gaps that are left (depending how short you have gone with it)
The body will need to have some strengthening as the roof will be gone

Don't forget your IVA (Sorry Bungle, beat you to it)

I'd shorten the floor pan from the back so you can reattach the heel board without adding any extra joins. Detach the side panels so you can stagger the joints.

I think it's fair to assume it's likely to be planned for road use, and better to have the warning in there then not.
I think he's in the UK...

Back to the subject, you'll probably find theres a thread or two in the projects section where people have made shorty's, so may be a good place to look...
