Im looking to maybe get a job 40 miles away, in Cardiff im in Bristol and there is no other way to get there other than across one of severn crossings and motorways otherwise be doing the mega long
way around. How will my mini cope? be 400m a week, I wont go mad cruise at 65 as its way to loud to go at 70 all the time, bearing in mind its mosty high speed, how much petrol will be roughly spending a week considering its a 1275cc carb stock apart from a play mini back box?

If I end up working there long term I will get more modern car to save mini, as its only got 20,000miles on the clock.

if i stay at my friends, which i do sometimes on work nights, its just over 40 miles each way, the mini manages that fine. A couple of times ive been to glasgow in the mini, which normally turns into over 1,000 mile trip, included the odd spirited drive on the country roads, left on friday morning, and came back monday morning, with no problems. Minis were once an everyday family car.

I do roughly 75-80 miles a day, mainly motorway (or dual carriage way) in a 998 mini with no real issues.
Cruise at 55-60 (speedo speed) and get around 45MPG.
As said at the end of the day its only a car. If you were doing this journey in a 20 year escort would you be asking the same questions?

Oh yeah I know they are for driving etc as well, mainly I dont want to put to many miles on it. Also safety factor going on motorway daily, think if get job
eventually will get a more modern car or use missus 206!

dont worry about putting miles onit, its not a garage queen or museum piece.
enjoy it, its only a matter of time before drive a car which runs on petrol will cost a premium.

I’ve always found the slightly longer trips out in the mini are a lot better for it, both in terms or wear and tear and fuel economy. Driving at a continuous speed on open long roads is always better than the short stop, start, constant gear changing and heavy braking trips.

Two tips

Get break down cover just in case.

When your on the flat section of road motorway get the mini up to speed then take your foot of the accelerator pedal,
then just lightly push it back down a bit and your find the mini keep the same speed with out putting to much petrol into the engine!! .
Takes a few times to get used to it but it will save you juice.

Very true she is much happier when on nice flowing fast roads and not stop starting all the time!!
