Im not expecting many people to be online on Christmas day, but its worth a try.

I got a Sub! woo.

im real happy with it, but im just not sure how to wire it.

This is all the connections:

My radio is just the original rover radio.

So, without changing the radio, how do i hook this up? Ive got a pretty decent idea how to put the sound input in (left and right wires from both speakers into left and right phono inputs?), but im not sure where to wire the DC power from.

Right. Your going to strugle to wire it up Via a Rover radio...

Those Phono inputs on the back of your Sub are for LOW INPUT only. A low input / output only comes as Phono, and you can buy a Headunit with these on the back as standard.

Your best bet is to buy a new sterio. Spend about £100 on one, And it have everything you need. You will also notice a HUGE improvement over the standard Rover one...


As for the power. The one that says "BATT" needs to go the the +ive on the battery. The one with "REM" on it needs to go to the "Remote power lead" going to the headunit. Usually a blue wire comming from the ISO adaptor.
The "GND" terminal needs to e earth'd anywhere on the chassis of the car. Your best bet is to earth it to the battery earth in the boot floor.

u wil have to change ur stereo u need one wit out puts as he sed ..this site will hook u up wit new stereo at good price www.motor-world.co.uk or go to halfords ..

also if u have herd of auto sounds they can wire all of it up for u cheeply

alright, thanks for all the help. It looks like ill be spending Christmas money on a stereo then.

I havnt got much knowledge of electrics (yet im doing Physics in A level...it makes me wonder sometimes :erm: ), but couldnt you put a "de-amplifier" on the normal signal output? Im probably making weird things up here that will never work.

an idea, but cheeply is still money. Im sure i can do it with Ben's instructions. I like doing that kinda stuff anyway, its just no fun leaving it to someone else to get dirty!

rite DONT try halfords or motorworld they no nothing and charge a fortune! Go to caraudiodirect.com all you need is a basic cd player only had a quick scroll through ur question but the sub looks to be active so very easy to wire up. Try laying the sub face up if it doesn't fit in the boot ike that, don't just put the eatbelt round it! Very dangerous if u have a crash n will prob get nicked!

you can wire it to the original radio if you wish but the sound would be no way near as good as that sub can produce. this is because the input on your sub/amp is low level not high level which your radio is..

to connect it up take a phono cable with two leads i.e red and white,
at one end cut the plugs off and strip the wires.
you will now have 4 wires ( two wires from each plug you cut off)

put the two negative cables (without sheaf) together and connect to negative on your radio and the positive wires connect together and then to the positibve on the radio.

you will probably have to cut the wires for your speakers as they are on a connection block. just make sure you connect everything up as it was.

for powering the amp run your power cable with an inline fuse on the cable and run the earth lead straight to the battery as long as the lead is of standard length this is ok without an earth point.

imho i would get a new head unit something like this for example would be a good buy

This is the sort of thing you need to do it correctly.

Otherwise i can recommend The H&B cd/mp3 usb headunit. Full off all the inputs and outputs you need and only £80 quid.

This is some interesting stuff!

This is the problem im faced with: I didnt really want a head unit, but if im going to get one (it looks like i will), it needs to have a Aux line in for my MP3 player. I dont want to get a new radio, and not have it doing exactly what i want it to do.

So, a head unit with Pre-amp outputs, and Aux inputs (or a multi disk changer port) for as close to, or under £70 as possible.

That thing that Miniboo linked to would be perfect, but how much of a reduction in bass are we talking about? I realise the sub ive got its pretty big (for a mini), so is it going to still be a decent volume?

and on the CAD website, why is the cassete players over £100 when you can get a CD player for under £50?

oh by the way, the sub does fit the boot, just. Theres hardly any space in there, but it fits :grin:

Found it

This is a link for a usb headunit.

On the spec it says it has 4 line outs and 2 line ins but it is actualy 2 pairs and 1 pair.

It also has sd card slot and a usb port.

I have this and have been impressed so far.
