I recently purchased a started project ( Mini 30), I have this mad idea that it would be cool to convert it to a convertible. I have seen a picture in a magazine where the roof seems chopped behind the front seats, or is it a roll cage that has been fabricated to look like its integral to the front part of the roof?

Has anyone done this conversion, is the hood section available from somewhere or is it tailor made & how do you strengthen the shell to prevent flexing.

Any help would be great ...... the jigsaw is on charge!!

yes , the very same!

Has anyone seen this conversion close up who can make a comment on finished fit, quality & general durability? The kit appears very good value though

Can't vouch for that kit, but I've been in a few home build convertibles and a 1994 factory one.
All had the rigidity of a wet lettuce and weighed a ton!

I bought a 'Keith's convertibles' mini as my first car. The fit of the roof was appauling, the roof was also very badly stitched together. I was always gutted that it didn't look like a proper convertible with the roof down, it wasn't 'open' enough, but it had enough metal cut away from it to make the car feel shabby and flexible. There wasn't enough strength in it and where the rear 'C-pillars' had been chopped, they were just left open and unpainted.

A lot of this was down to the person that fitted the kit I know, but on the whole my convertible was a load of pap and a real disappointment. Some of it was because of the kit, some of it was because of the way it was fitted. But anyway, that's just my opinion about them, if I was going to do a convertible conversion now, I'd want it to look like a proper Rover convertible.

I think this was a shoddy kit, perhaps a replica of keiths conversion. If u wanted a kit that replicated a "proper rover convertiable" then whats the point. Buy a "proper rover convertiable" !
