Wondering about my metro engine timing cover breather to fan clearance. Searching only came up with 3 hits for what im looking for.
It seems people hammer the breather in slightly to gain the clearance, but sure that I have seen a post somewhere that shows the breather chopped and re-welded?
My question is, does it the breather contain anything? Not sure but seem to remember seeing a coarse foam on some photo somewhere??? If so would it matter leaving this out as it would melt on re-assembly.
Should it be brazed or welded?

You can do either - only a wire mesh inside. If you bash it flat - take care you don't bash the cover into the timing chain and/or the sprockets.

Cheers,
Cover is off, as im rebuilding, and fitting duplex. Might have a go at chopping the breather then if its a wire mesh.
Do you know of messing about mig welding it would cause distortion, and increase the oil leaks?

Do you need to do anything? when I put a Metro engine in my Mini City all I did was put a spacer on the water pump and the fan was clear of the breather and the radiator, its worth checking to save you hanmmering or welding.
