I also saw this thread over a year ago and posted about it on our Club Forum.

I then decided to give it a try, but with a sweet twist!!

Have a look here at the results.

My Sweetener!

I just used a normal cheapy (from one of those Halfrauds air tool kits) shot blaster!

Came out rather well!

NOTE: As far as air compressors are concerned for blasting, the bigger then better. The more CFM it flows the better the results will be. If you try and blast with a tiny 2 gallon compressor, you will be disappointed. For best results use a compressor with at least a 25 gallon tank that flows at least 6 - 7 CFM. I personally use a 60 gallon, 5hp, upright, Ingersol Rand and get fantastic results. Again, the bigger compressor the better.

That's the bitter pill....

You WILL need a decent compressor, and if you can afford one of those, why not just purchase a blasting cabinet aswell...

Even taking the american gallon (7 pints) instead of the imperial gallon, you're looking @ a 100ltr 3hp compressor before I'd even consider blasting with it..

my small twin pot blaster takes a hell of a lot of air, unless you are only doing small pieces you need at least 50cfm, plus you can only buy coarse soda in 25kg sacks.
