Please give your topic a title that quickly describes your problem. Just putting 'Help my Mini doesn't work' is useless to anyone trying to help.

Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):
my petrol gauge isn't working at all and i have no idea why, it used to work when i put petrol in it would go up to how much i had, but then 5 mins down the road it would say zero again, this was ok to live with, but now it just says zero all the time, what could be the problem n how do i resolve this ?? its becoming annoying broke down twice this week due to no petrol...

Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem?

you probably need a new fuel sender (in the tank) fairly easy job just make sure your tank is as empty as you dare!

Start with the basic tests.

Place the ignition key in the run position.
Open the boot and find the two wires connected to the fuel sending unit. (Black wire = Earth, Green/Black = wire to gauge).
Place a paperclip between the sending unit terminals to "short" the two wires together.
Watch the fuel gauge for a minute or so.

If the gauge went to full, you need a new sending unit. If the gauge did not go to full there are several possibilities. Post back and let us know what you find after the paperclip test.

i would recomend or buying or eaven making a test light with an old indicator unit and a crocodile clip and a live and earth wire. then testing and methodicly tracing the fault.

A test light may prove quite helpful once you know whether the problem is in the sending unit or the wiring. The paperclip test is a first step in determining which part of the system to look at.
