Hey Again guys,
I have a red button on the control panel of my Neon Mini. It's on the far left and the picture on it looks like a brake pedal. As of yet i really have NO CLUE what it does. It's not a click button just a hold on or off one. If any of you could solve this it would be awsome!

Thanks x

It lights up when your brake pads are almost gone if i'm not mistaken. You can just push it to check its working. I might be wrong though.

I believe it actually measures brake pressure in the system. So brake fluid levels. So If you are leaking fluid, the button will automatically light up. However, sometimes the bulb goes, which is why you can press it to make sure it is working.

Come on guys, dont be mean. Everyone has to learn and its not exactly obvious, even though this question does get asked an awful lot. Perhaps an explanation of what this button does should be pinned, if its not already?

Yup, there is a small float switch in the lid of the brake master cylinder, when the fluid drops below a certain level the switch will illuminate, telling you to sort it out.

Pressing it, simply is a test feature to let you know the bulb is still working.

However, the switch in the lid of the master cylinder usualy corrodes away and won't work, even when it does work, it comes on when the level is waaaaay too low anyway.

Given how often the question comes up maybe a sticky would be a good idea?

It has two possible functions that have both been covered (sort of). It is connected to the level switch in the brake fluid cap and should light up if the brake fluid level gets low. On some Minis it is also conected to a switch in the middle of the master cylinder - this is a pressure sensor that switches if the pressure between the two circuits and if it differs by more than a certain amount which implies that there is a leak or burst pipe.

Pushing the button confirms that the bulb is OK (assuming it lights up). Most modern cars have the bulb in parallel with the handbrake warning light so that it is tested when the handbrake is applied.
