Hi all. Anyone know about mayo? I have serious mayonnaise in my rocker cover. I dont think the head gasket has gone because i checked the coolant level and it is clear and has not gone down at all. Even on a 90 mile journey. i cleaned the breather cap and after the 90 mile journey there was a coating of mayo. Do i need a different thermostat to get the engine hotter. My daily commute to work is only 6 miles each way and i dont think the engine gets hot enough.

is there any mayo on the dip stick if there is then i would think it is the head gasket was the mini left standing for anytime it could well be condensation. try draining the oil, clean the head up and replace the oil filter then put new oil in.and then check again.

if the head gasket has gone this could also be causing your stuttering problem.

i know it sound a bit like head gasket but the coolant is clear and the level has not gone down. There is no oil on dipstick. Am gonna change the oil, take off the rocker cover and clean it up with the head. Will see what happens then. It hasnt been standing because i use it every day. If head gasket has gone would it not stutter all the time and lose power. it only does it sometimes and only when setting off. once the revs afre up over 2500 it doesnt stutter and pulls really well

my 306 head gasket went, i had some mayo but no other effects.

I ripped apart and replaced it 2nd nature, because it stuttered and adjusting the connectors and A ECU check wouldnt fix it.

It was the head gasket, with no other effects - no water loss, or bubbles etc.

yes! mine's the same. Definately not the head gasket, because i have checked when the head needed de-coking + valve stem oil seals. engine now on its 3rd build and still does this. Always has, around this time of year. I think it's damp getting into the breathing system, tho i have k & n breather filters.

The damp is a possibility because at the moment both the breathers have no filters. the pipes are just running from the canisters to an open end. must get some filters and see if that helps.

Over here, the mayo in the valve cover is a common problem on A-series engines run for short distances in cool, damp weather.

By all means keep an eye on the condition of the coolant and oil. Check the compression and if you have access to a leak-down-tester, I'd perform that check also... just to put your mind at ease. However, I suspect if you clean the goo out, change your oil, and drive long enough to get to operating temperature (AND keep it at running at temperature for at least 10 minutes) each time you drive the car, you won't have the problem.
