Were it me, I'd be looking for a late Mk2 shell, hopefully one that's converted to a dry suspension. Put all the Mk1 trim on it, install the rear light adapter panels and you've got a very original looking conversion.

Which sadly is illegal over here.

Is it illegal if you retain the registration of the Mk2 shell? I'm not suggesting registering it as a Mk1. Again, from what you've said earlier, it sounds like you have a bunch of parts looking for a shell to call home.

Thanks for the info Bungle. My car has external hinges so the conversion wouldn't be of use to me. However, on another board I visit this topic comes up at least once or twice a year.

If the shell retains its Mk2 registration then its perfectly legal,

If I put a brand new bmh shell onto the mk1 its perfectly legal.
