Cant believe how simple it would be. REEEEEEEEAAAL shame I just missed my nieces 3rd birthday. If I build it for her and give it to her, I will get told off for spoiling her.
Might build an adult one out of the neighbours wheelie bin! (worried that it will be 'rubbish thou!

I've nearly finished one for my son who will be 3 in September. It's now being painted in green with a yellow nose and stripe. Points to those who know why!
I've made my own front stub axles and steering with rod ends rather than the parts the plans recommend. I've also mounted the front arches on the stub axles, rather than the body. That way, they turn with the wheels. It lends itself to being 'tweaked' or you can just build it straight from the plans really cheaply. It's been good fun. Here's the last picture I took. Still needed the front stubs finishing at this point.
You mention the Land Rovers..... the chap behind this is the original owner of Real Life Toys, the company that did the Toylander.

I like that you tried to be modest, but suspension design is kinda what makes lotuses, lotuses.
Bravo sir!
