you may well struggle to get your insurance to cover you for so long abroad.

normally 28 days, some will extend but you would need to check with your insurer. also depending on where you are going your insurer may not offer cover in some countries.

Usually a 28 day green card will be included free or for a small admin fee but they will often cover you for longer if you are willing to pay more. Get agreed value insurance, this is essential. Then get your European breakdown cover to accept the agreed value. If you don't, and you break down more than a few hundred miles from a port they will not bring your car back. Without agreed value they will only pay recovery costs up to the blue book value of the car, which is essentially nothing on any Mini now they are all at least 10 years old. Make sure the car is in good health before you go and prepare for servicing while you are away. Have everything you need to legally carry for every country you go to and make sure that you aren't carrying anything pointlessly just because people think that you require it or because it seems like a good idea. Since this will include carrying the originals of all the documents for your car except the MOT, it would be a good idea to have a safe in the car as you will be gone for so long. You can get a document safe that secures into the car by a cable and that can then be taken into hotel rooms with you. DO NOT take a speed camera detector of any kind. A roof box would be a good idea.
