Dashpot Oil Change.

It was sitting for a year un-used so I guess it's a good place to start.
Do I literally just unscrew the nob on the top and pull the plunger(?) out, and pour the correct oil in?
What weight oil would it be for a 998cc?
Thanks, Ross

It is that simple!, top the oil up until you can feel resistance when you push the dip back in. I use the same oil that i run in my engine (20W50) but i know some prefer to use a thinner oil
Thankyou, thought I'd ask before flooding my carb with oil or something... haha
Any other things I should look out for or change whilst I'm doing that?

Don't worry, you can't. Car might give you issues first start but thats just because it has to push some oil out the dashpot.

Bogging down can also be distributor so check all connections to and from and take the cap off to check for and moisture, just give it a wipe with a clean cloth inside and pop it back on, while its off, check the condition of the points, if they are pitted or corroded then your bogging down will soon turn into a misfire.
I never thought of checking for moisture, could be why considering the weather lately.
Can't check until Monday though as it's stored in a barn until I become unlazy and learn to drive :')

I'm guessing it would just burn off anyway? but thanks

Okay, the dashpot when very full will just squirt the oil out of the hole in the plastic cap of the plunger, small amounts work their way down the outside of the piston and get sucked into the engine.

But it appears the dashpot has oil in.
I started it again and I think the problem is that it's just mis-firing? What could be the cause of this?
I'm going up there again tomorrow so I might check distributer etc, but to be honest I don't know what I'm looking for and I don't know anyone local that would be able that know about minis etc
