I've just installed the EDIS system on the mini, preparing it for the megajolt. It should run at a fixed 10 degrees advance with just the EDIS plugged in, I have spark, so popped the plugs in and it's just backfiring through the carb.

The plugs have been checked dozens of times and are on the right way around and right order, I've checked the polarity of the sensor dozens of times and its right.

Im not using resistive plugs, is that a problem?

It's got a spark though so I don't understand why it won't go, it ran off the dizzy ok.

Any suggestions, do I have to change the plugs?

Just put some NGK R resistive plugs in and its still doing it.

I'm using NGK R resistive plugs with my megajolt so they are compatible. I'd try asking on the autosportlabs forums, I can't think if anything other than a wrong firing order or sensor being timed out on the trigger wheel by a fair whack, but as you say you've checked.

Hope you sort it, JJ

Thanks for that, re-assures me a bit about the plugs, Im thinking my trigger wheel might not be mounted correctly now, more research required.

Sounds like timing, I'd be looking at the location of the missing tooth as this sets your 10 degree advance.

When I started mine up with just the EDIS it was a little lumpy but as it was a freshly built engine, including the carb, the mixture was just a guess. I spent a little while playing with the mixture and couldn't get it to run smoothly. Eventually found out two of the HT leads were swapped, though I'd checked them before and was certain they were right. Ran beautifully after that.

Pull the leads off one at a time, you never know.

Yeah, just double check it, small errors in the 90 degree measurment can be compensated for in the megajolt software, but it needs to be as close as possible initially.

For example, on my setup, when the engine is at tdc, the missing tooth is at the top of the pully, and the sensor is att 90 degrees before towards to the front of the engine bay, if you see what I mean.

Right I think I've got it wrong.

Im now starting to think my trigger wheel might not be bolted on properly. At TDC the missing tooth is 90 degrees before. My VR sensor is then pointing at the tooth before the missing one, is this correct, or have I got it wrong?

If the engine is at TDC, the trigger wheel can be bolted to it in any position, it doesn't matter where the missing tooth is. What matters is that the sensor is 90 degrees before the missing tooth.

For example, if the missing tooth is at 12 oclock, the sensor should be at 9 oclock. Missing tooth at 3 oclock, sensor at 12 oclock.

Right, so I've got to remake my sensor bracket, or adjust my trigger wheel on the pulley. Thanks alot for this, I can see where I've gone wrong now.

More work to do.

Right getting this sorted, filed a new keyway so the pulley sits 90 degrees further around putting the missing tooth at TDC.

Can I just confirm that at TDC, that the sensor should read tooth 9 before the missing one, same as the diagram above yes?

sounds right to me... you could always check you're at 90' by using a right angle and having a look..

I have loads of maps on my lappy what's send me a PM and give let me know of your spec and I will try and send you some.

Just putting it back together now, It's running on EDIS now, it's rough but it's running.

Just got to sort the megajolt now.
