Hi Everyone,
I am a newbie and I just bought my first Mini. It is about a 94, SPI 1300cc, manual trans..ect.
When I bought it the engine would not crank with the key, no fire to the plugs no fuel pump. After some wire tracing we finally got it to fire up on carb cleaner.
But this was only after cutting the white/red "cranking" wire from the switch and the brown/red from the starter and just touching them to get it to turn over. Leaving them connected it will just keep cranking. We think the black "relay" box is the problem, all the wiring diagrams show this as having 4 relays inside. After cutting the top off mine we found this one has only 3, and the parts stores show only one relay box.
My question is the 3 relay box correct for this car or is there a different box I need?? Dont want to spend $240 on it if its not the problem....
Thanks in advance!!!!!

There are loads of different versions of this box, but the Mini parts suppliers only show one because only one was ever fitted to the Mini. Because Rover's injections system was modular, the same basic equipment was fitted to loads of models and used in loads of configurations, as such there are different relay modules. They all look basically the same, there is a part number stamped on it though and if you have the wrong one it won't work. Commonly people try to use a Metro module because for some reason I've never been able to fathom people seem to think the Mini and Metro are basically the same car. People try to use loads of Metro parts, but Metro was never fitted with an injected A series engine so the relay pack is completely wrong. You need module YWB10022.

The MPi and SPi had different modules.
