That tuning kit should allow you to get close to your goal but it also depends on the state the engine is currently in. If its old and worn it will be down on power to start with and by chucking some tuning parts at it it will only degrade more quickly and maybe not even reach your power goal. The SPi is hampered also by its ECU. It cant be chipped and isnt much good at taking more power than standard but aftermarket ECUs arent cheap.
You would be better off making sure your engine and gearbox are in top nick before you go spending loads of cash on it to make it go faster.

it is a bit more limiting 'tuning' an SPI mini than a carb. But there seems to be lots of developments at the moment, but it all depends on your budget.

I guess a stage 3 head, lcb. etc will work well, but as above depends really on the state of the engine you have.

Some companies (specialist components is one) sell an after market ecu. I also saw in a mini mag that SC are also selling a 5 port throttle body on twin injectors.

A super charger from http://www.vmaxscart...ercharger-kits/ is also an option.

From specialist components - just over 500 for the ecu and about a 1000 for the ecu with a new throttle body.

The standard ecu is said to be ok up to 100bhp

july 2010 miniworld had a good feature on the ecu and tuning.

I ran a 1310 spi with a stage 4 head, kent injection cam, an lcb and pipercross induction kit.

The standard ECU ran it perfectly well

i dont want to spend £800 or whatever it is on the stage 3 kit if it dosent really work
but all sonds good at the moment.
also iv heard roller rockers do the same as a cam but no need to remove the engine is this true or would both be better.
im assuming the stage 3 kit elegid 85bhp is done of a cooper which is already runing a bigger cam.

or should i just buy a stage 3 engine?

sorry but im not the best at when it comes to engines so i count on others lol....

thanks again...............

i think you would be better to get a modified head of ebay or on here and then a stage 1 kit that is basicly what that kit is.
and then just get the roller rockers from mini sport. this way it would be a lot cheaper.

im not sure to be honest, the stage one kit should add 15-20% increase which is ok, but i dont think the rockers really do anything, i think alot of people dont really worry with them, but a modified head is good so somthing like a stage 3 head.

cam is a lot better than roller rockers, i think roller rockers can evan make you loose power lower down the rev range or that might just be on a 998, but a cam will add power most of the way through the rev range and more power as well.
