Austin mini MK3 i think
1977:
Hi, I wonder if anyone could please help me, everything seems to be going wrong with my mini :( I recently purchased some relays for my dip/dim lights but I'm on my 3rd one now :s, which 2 went today, the first when I braked and the second just after I replaced it, I'm not sure what this could be from but I have noticed the joined blue & red wire going into the relay has started melting and the solder on the relays just melts off. Another problem I have is with my clutch, the car doesn't go into gear all the time and I have to give it a lot of gas to pull off or it just stalls and sometimes the clutch clonks when changing to second and third, no matter how slow or fast I release it, would this mean I need to replace something?. And last and but not least of my worries is the fuse box in the bonnet (black box with 4 fuses), could someone please tell me what each one is for and what amps they meant to be as the guy that owned the car before me shoved a 13A plug socket fuse in one of them :P Thank-you all very much for reading I'd appreciate any help, even if it's a total shot in the dark, Thanks.

Hi,
First, if your light relays are blowing and the wires are melting then it's likely that you have a short circuit on your headlight. Maybe a bulb mounted incorrectly or a wire chafed. Headlights are not fused so that's why everythings melting, they'll keep pulling as much power as the battery can provide until the wire melts!
Fuses:
Top 1 35amp Stoplights, Revrsing lights, heated rear window, indiators and dim dip relay.
next down: Horn, main beam flash, brake circuit, radio memory
3rd down: Heater motor, Windsren wipers, instruments
bottom: Tail lights, instrument panel lights.

I tend to stick mainly to electrical and let others preach the mechanics as i;m not qualified in this area.

Hope this helps
Bob
