I have bought the crackle paint from Frost, but personally, I have found it a right pain to spray and to get a good finish too. If you want any sort of success, I found that you must follow the directions on the can exactly and once finished, get some heat onto it i.e electric fan heater. It also worth buying a breathing mask (cheap one will do) as the overspray is a horrible, which sticks to everything which isn't covered up, including the inside of your nose!

I haven't tried the Halfords paint so I would be interested of the finished look, but another option is that, depending on what you want painted, is powder coating, but again I havent seen any finished examples.

I would be interested on your results and hopefully you won't have as much trouble as i have had with it.

Cheers

Chris

i can vouch for the hammerite too, they call it hammered finish, painted my rocker cover in it and i think the finish is alright...

I've tried the one from frost, didn't really work as I would have hoped, came out very matte.

I dont think any paint will give as good a finish as the crackle powder coat.

Cheers Ross.

Agree with the powdercoat, we have a box of cracked black in at the moment, aswell as cracked bronze and cracked silver and all sorts of crazy effects!
It comes up really nice once done and not as much as you may think!

I bought a can from ebay for my supercharger I rebuilt about a year ago, the finish was AWESOME and I also did the rocker covers, it has a real "factory" look about it which I liked. So a definite thumbs up from me!

Here's a pic of the blower case (sorry fairly small pic so detail not great)

And hammered finish hammerite is the normal hammerite finish, that looks funnily enough like hammered metal!

Be careful which direction you point the car that engine ends up in - go east and the world will speed up. Going north and south will be okay though

I love crackle finish, especially for dashes like in Triumph Spitfires etc. I'm going to have to chase up some of that for my Clubman Estate.

It ended up in a mx5 :) http://www.topcatpro...o.uk/v8mx5.html I'm half tempted to do another one with more power- but too tied up with minis and american stuff at the mo!
