Hi,

I noticed a wile back my Speedo cable had been allowed to rub up against the exhaust manifold :erm:

And

As I’m removing nearly half engine bay
To replace my leaded head with an unleaded one

Along with all engine mounts, alternator, water pump (rad out)
Carb and manifolds

I might as well change it, BUT
With which one, there’s so many  :erm:

The mini is a 1984 mini25 998cc with clubman gt style dash

thanks,
<karl>

make sure you get one that is correct for your size wheels.

Somewhere like speedy cables would make one to ur needs i think.

The speedo cable does not affect the ratio of turn...

If you have smiths guages, you need the speedo cable with the grey plastic end,

if you have Nippon guages you need the white plastic ended one...

When did the speedo cables change to the ones you mentioned with the plastic ends?

The early cars had screw-on cables with nuts at each end. There are long and short ones. If your car has this type of cable, select the "long" one regardless of what was originally fitted.

I can't comment about how to remove the plastic ended cables.

DK, the screw ones are for the centrally mounted ones, when they moved to the binnacle type dials ( inf front of the driver ) the first ones we still made by smiths, and then in the late 80's/90's they changed to the Nippon Seiki? manufacturerd ones.

The are easily distinguised from the front.. the smiths ones have the speeds on a separate insert in the dial, where as the nippon ones it's all printed on to the dial face..
