Hi all,

I'm the proud owner of a 998c Mini which I bought because I thought it would be fun to drive, it would allow me to learn about working on my own car, and also to travel around Great Britain in.

After a year I've learned a lot and travelled 10,000 miles around Britain trundling all over the place.

Its currently in the garage awaiting a new rear subframe and a lot of maintenance but I'm hoping to have it MOT'd and back on the road again in time for further travels around this big island.

Thanks everyone for the welcome to the forum.

I've been travelling around Great Britain for 2 years in my cars. My last car was a big beast that drank fuel and I fancied something a little different (and a little more economical). If it could get further on less fuel and get down those U-roads in the middle of nowhere, then all the better.

I've travelled most of England now, some of South Wales and South West Scotland, but not all in the Mini.

Recent trips in the Mini were all over Northumberland, up the coast and inland towns. I like scenic routes and the Mini is great for going off-road. I went up to Edinburgh cross-country (not the A1 in other words) from Berwick-upon-Tweed and then came back down via Keilder and did the 12km country track through Keilder forest in the pouring rain and mud. You should of seen the people I met in their 4x4's probably thinking I was mad doing this track in a Mini.

I've taken it up through the Peak district recently. At the top of a steep hill I was driving in thick fog and the Mini just did not want to accelerate. Its a 1990 Mini City E 998cc saloon.

I've already started planning my 2006 trips around GB. North Wales, more of Scotland, the Lake District and Cumbria again and Cornwall and Devon.

I can also recommend Cheddar Gorge and Snake Pass as fun drives in a Mini. Its amazing what scenic drives are out there in Great Britain. And in a Mini they are so much more enjoyable.

The Mini failed its MOT with a rusted rear subframe. When I took it off I found that the rear heelboard has gone, inside the arches, the fuel pipe needs replacing as does the brake pipes and the fuel tank is a little corroded. So I have my work cut out for me. Hopefully its going to be finished in time for some good travelling weather.

You can see pictures of my Mini plus details of the work done to it here:
