Had my breakdown renewal last week, Roadside personel cover, covers me in any car....
Renewal was £60.04 thought this was a bit steep so i've just phoned them to query it.
They said it was this price as it was an automated renewal, and the online price is £39.93 !!!,
he said I can do it for that, I said 'I should think you would' LOL......

Just a warning to question renewal fees......

My mate paid about £45 I think it was for his first year. He used it 3 times. Once was for me lol. Anyway they quoted him £200 this year cause of this. So anyway he phoned his bank up and upgraded his account which he now pays £7 a month for. This included brake down cover with the AA as well as aload of other stuff lol. So another tip is too see if you can get anything though you bank. May end up saving you some wonga.

The AA always do this on renewal, they quote you what is the "normal" price without any discounts or offers but as there is always some sort of offer on if you call them they usualy say they can reduce it. My arguement with them is why when the renewal is sent out it isnt the best price available given as they are not giving you a fair renewal price. This is why i did not renew with them as i dont believe this is good policy

As with most things, the best deals are normally for new customers. I’ve even found with things like this and car insurance, its sometimes pays to get a better deal to cancel instead of renewing and staring afresh as a new customer.

I canceled my AA membership when the renewal came through with a 45% increase in price. They offered to lower it but it was too late to keep me as a customer.

When my RAC cover jumped from £79 to £99 I didn't even contact them I just cancelled it and went to ADAC!

Insurance renewals are always like this too, I've been with the same company for a few years but every year they send me an overinflated renewal, I get a quote on their website for about £100 less and then call them up and make them match it! :)

unlike insurance companies.. there is no 'talking' between them right? so i can go from AA to RAC for their new customer deal right?

point being that they don't discuss how many times you used em with each other no?

They all do it. My renewal for RAC came in at a silly amount, checked online and RAC was £40 cheaper and AA £45, due to the 'new customer online discount'. Called RAC, had a little moan and they gave me the AA price no arguments and changed a few things to make it a better deal for me too. It's just companies. As with insurance and other things like this, shop around, call companies and do a bit of arguing and you'll get a much better price.

We have got the same thing with Barclays but it also covers alot of other things ie top holiday insurance, household items insurance ( I phones laptops etc) emergencey plumbing cover and lots of other things as well. Its worth the extra money we pay as we have saved hundreds of pounds oh and the breakdown cover is top of the range as well so happy days.

I don't think they even talk to themselves. I was recovered a couple of times one year, and received a renewal of around £140. I rang them up, told them I didn't want cover any more. The next day I rang up and they started me again on a new customer policy with the normal small premium! They've renewed it again since, and I've used it once, so they don't seem to mind.

I drive a recovery truck.

i would say you get what you pay for when it comes to recovery, i pick up countless amounts of people who got there cover though there bank accounts or got cheaper (sub £70) recovery who complain thet they have to pay £1.90 +vat a mile to get home, loads of the cheaper recovery and banks and credit card policies only cover you for a 10 mile radius of where you break down and you have to pay the additional costs and these can amount to hundreds of pounds so check the policy before accepting a cheap quote.

Out of the big three i would say green flag are the best for quick recovery and service.

My parents are with Green Flag - It came with the minibus they bought - They have used it only a few times - Silly things happened like the accelerator cable snapped but they call out local firms i think (they don't have their own fleet?) but all the times they used it its been completely satisfactory.

I rang AA twice with the Mini (the first time the gearbox had gone bang and broke so i was stuck and it was a night in November so the guy had to come along way so took a long while but he was super helpful and just took me home on a flat bed), the second time they were going to be ages and we fixed it before they came and I rang and cancelled!)

Green flag use contractors sounds bad but they will find the closest garage with a truck available so pickup times are quicker, you may not get home in a nice new shiney aa or rac truck (some of ours have between 800k and a million miles on the clock) but you will get picked up quicker and usually get home quicker in my experiance.

Yeah 'our' local company are pretty good - I did like the AA's flat bed though. Massive and really swish.
