I have recently purchased a new front windscreen rubber (wide fit) for my 1984 saloon but think it is too big. Am i right in thinking the rubber should fit snug on the 'out of car' glass as my seem to be a couple of inches to long? cheers for you help

Never tried fit it to the glass so can't say

You fit the rubber to the frame first. That will tell you if its ok.

Cheers Irostoke, sounds like we are going about fitting the glass all wrong.

A brief run down on the best way of fitting would be a great help.

Cheers guys,
Thanks for the tread Matt.
Maybe the rubber is the correct size afterall.
You all have been a great help and I will be attempting the refit at the weekend.

When I fitted a new screen and rubber I found the rubber seal didn't fit properly (too big) and found the screen sat proud of the surround almost like pursed lips if you can see what I mean.

Thinking I might have done something wrong I removed the screen and refitted it with the old rubber and it sat perfectly.

My solution was to reuse the old rubber with a new insert, but it made me wonder if the new seal wasn't right or what?

Now i'm again thinking that maybe my rubber is the wrong size. Can anybody tell me in which year did they change the size of the front screen?
