isnt it possible for you to change the whole master cylinder for a later type, say one with the yellow band. this may sound a stupid question but it might jog someones memory who's had the same problem obtaining parts. you have not said how old your mini is.

Aye, black tag stuff is like looking for gold.

On the moon,

In a thunderstorm,

A thunderstorm of ducks,

Its so very unlikely you'll find them, theres no points. HOWEVER, there is hope in the form of a later YELLOW tag cylinder, you have to get adaptor pipes for it thought.

Or for cheaper, eBay

I had a £30 (was new) yellow tag for a few years now, no problems.

I'd strongly recommend going to the yellow tag one anyway. The black tag cylinder had a design fault that can make it nearly impossible to bleed. That's why it was discontinued.

Be aware that the pipes from yellow tag master to the valve are the other way round to the black tag cylinder. If you buy a new 'genuine' cylinder, it comes with fitting details. The aftermarket yellow tag cylinders aren't supplied with a reservoir and they are different to your old cylinder, so it would pay to go to genuine anyway. The genuine ones aren't huge money at around £60 + VAT (if you are careful where you buy it from  ). Non-gen are about 2/3rds of that.

Mines an aftermarket cheapo one, came with everything. Then again, not seen one for the same price since. £30 well spent though.

if you are usin one with a yellow tag, do you need to change the brake limiter valve also??? yellow tag (metric), but i guess the brake limiter valve is different???

i own a 998cc rover from 1990 with servo brake pump, but i want to change it to this: yellow tag brake master cilinder and remove the servo. but do i need to change the brake limiter who is now in the rover????

ps: could somebody explain me whats the difference between "black tag" and "yellow tag" brake master cilinder???

many thx Fozz (Belgium).

Yours is different again. The Bias valve is the same. The yellow tag cylinder was a super cession by AP to the earlier ones, it had a stepped bore, hence the different repair kit.

To answer your question, you would just fit the master cylinder. However, the pedal box is also different, why would you want to remove the servo?

for the moment he's from 1990, but i have papers from a 1984 (difficult to explain, but here in belgium is a rule: your car needs to be 25 years to be an oldtimer, and its much cheaper for the insurance).

but a 1984 didnt have a servo, so...( pedal box is no problem, i have also one)

and if you want to use your mini( or any other car) here for regularity (kind of rally) , the car must be older than 1/1/1985.

thats the reason why i want to change it... :-)

on the other side: i could always say that i installed a servo brake for much brakepower.

so, im trying to find out whats the best option for me...( keep the servo, or change it to a non-servo brake pump)

friendly regards, Fozz.
