I have a clubby estate and have some gauges I want to fit.

I have a smiths vacuum and oil pressure gauge.

I would also like a rev counter in the car, I was originally thinking of the tim 80mm pod mounted on the cowling.
I have now seen they do a 52mm tacho it has a black bezel, i was wandering if a smiths bezel will fit instead of the tim one?

Thanks

Matt

You may be able to modify the TIM gauge to accept the Smiths bezel but I seriously doubt it will fit without work. Most aftermarket gauges have bezels that are crimped or roll-formed onto a flange at the front of the gauge case. You have to carefully pry up the rolled metal to remove the bezel. Smiths gauges typically have bezels that have tabs that slip through slots on the front of the gauge case . Once pushed on the case, the Smiths bezels are rotated so locking tabs on the back of the bezel grip the flange on the front of the gauge case. With a little creativity and luck you may be able to modify the TIM gauge to have the necessary clearance slots to accept the Smiths bezel.

Keep in mind that there are several different styles of bezels on Smiths gauges. Some parts are available as new-old-stock, others you may have to remove from a donor gauge. Obviously you will want to find a tach bezel that matches your other gauges as closely as possible.

I presumed it wouldn't fit but my dad has durite guage and a smiths bezel fitted straight on as a replacement! I have plenty of spare old bezels off smiths gauges, I just wandered if it would be an easy replacement. I guess not then, ill keep looking for other alternatives

I've a feeling you can get a chrome bezel for tim gauges. Minispares sell them TIM023 @ £4.50 each.
