Starter Motor Leads?

Do you think the solenoid has busted due to putting leads on wrong? I got ignition lights, power but no click from the starter motor now when I turn the key. Car is 1996 SPi.
I have done all the things people have said on my last topic, rocked the car in gear, made sure the bolts were tight enough, fully charged the battery.

then on the starter the one with what looks like a Red/Green wire is the feed from the relay, which is triggered by the start turn on the ignition barrel. This would normally be a white/red wire ( as Minidaves said )
The bottom tag ( un connected ) would be a 12v feed to the coil on a ballested ignition system so that during starting the coil gets that extra bit of oomph to fire the sparkies..

You need to move the wire (one or more brown)that goes to the right and round the distributor and attatched to the small brass terminal/nut. It needs to go on the big brass terminal/nut allong with the battery cable and the wires (again one or more brown)that go to the left and up allong the inner wing. There should only be one wire attatched to the small terminal/nut which is the wire to the motor. The big spade type terminal with a browm/ red wire is where it should be.
Shoult fix the problem :cheese:

1) the fuseble link(not a fuse as you would expect) in the main wiring.
2)The relay for the starter in the relay pack is faulty
3)The starter solenoid is faulty
4)The ignition switch is faulty
5)Flat battery
6)Earth strap
Unplug the relay pack, find a pin that is connected to a brown only wire and check for voltage. If there is no voltage there then the fuseble links are blown or the battery is flat. Or if the fuel pump does not start when you first turn the ignition on, same thing.
Also check the ignition switch, while you have the relay pack disconnected, find the pin that is connected to a white/red wire. Get some one to turn the key to position 2 (start) and check for voltage. if there is nothing, the switch is duff.
Check the condition of the earth strap contact faces and ensure they are bright clean.
Test the starter by removing it. Clamp the starter in a vice, use auto jump leads, connect the negative of the battery to the body of the starter and using the crocodile clip on posative lead short across the large terminal(Battery terminal) and the large spade terminal that the brown/red wire was on( solenoid). This will start the motor. If it does nothing then starter moter is duff and would be easier to get a reconditioned one.
Hope this helps
