I have an engine I would really like to know if I should treat like any other 1275 or whether it's worth something for the "original" enthusiasts.
The engine number is 38G464 ERS50554.
The head has 12G1295 cast in and 12G1805 stamped on the top face.
According to the original BL dealer microfilms, this is a 1275 Cooper S engine made just before the end of production.
The head has been disassembled and ports slightly "cleaned", a minimum skim and valve seat regrind performed. Below the head everything is untouched and the bores show no wear.
The car did an uncertain but low mileage from 1973 to 1980 when it was put into heated indoor storage.
Pictures available.
What do you think?

yep could defiantly be worth a fair bit depending on condidtion, the bottom end is of the most interest,
the S blocks are different and getting scarce, there was a mint block on ebay for about a grand a couple of weeks ago, I ebayed an S crank a couple of years ago it went for 300 quid.

Would this be a later Mk 3 'S' engine based on the 1300GT block or an original Mk 1 & 2 block with the EN40B crank?
That would make a lot of difference.

Is the head secured with 10 studs + one bolt, or with 11 studs ??

What cooperman says is a good point,
Also I have seen the "mk3" heads on the "proper" S bottom end before,
the best thing to do is check the back of the block for removable tappet chest plates.

Thanks for your helpful replies, all. The block has removable tappet chest plates, I think there are 11 studs rather than 10+bolt, I'll check today and get some pictures. What cooperman says is a good point,
